JaxSport.com Adult Co-ed Softball Rules

JaxSport Adult Co-ed Softball League uses a modified version of USSSA Co-ed rules.

General

1.     Good sportsmanship is expected! We are all out here for fun. Any gross unsportsmanlike conduct will cause that player to be ejected from the game and a possible suspension from future games.

2.     Fighting will result in a permanent ban from any JaxSport leagues.

3.     Teams may protest any game they feel has had a major rules violation. Protests must be brought to the attention of the umpire as soon as the decision is made with the reason the protest is being conducted, then that team captain must email the league with the protest reason. League staff will look at the protest and make a decision the following week.

  4.    Team Captains must notify the league director or JaxSport by End of Day Thursday if there team will not show up on there scheduled time. Failure to do so                   will result in disqualification from the end of season tournament.

5.   Two regular season forfeits are allowed without penalty. Upon the 3rd violation the team will be disqualified from the end of season tournament and risks not being able to play in the league the following season.

6.    ID’s will be checked before Tournament Games.

Equipment

1.     All balls will be provided by JaxSport League staff

2.     No metal spikes may be worn.

3.     All bats must be approved bats under USSSA rules and kept in the buckets during game play at all times.

4.     Teams must wear the same color shirts with numbers. All teams must have the same base color shirts by the 3rd week of the season. Players not matching their team will not be allowed to play without approval from the other team’s captain.

Game Play

1.     All games have a 1 hour time limit. No new inning may start after the time limit is up.

2.     A coin toss at the coaches meeting with the umpires will determine who is home and away.

3.     The home run limit will also be decided at the coaches meeting with the umpires. Both divisions will go with a low bid on home runs from two to four home runs. Any other questions about rules should be asked at the coaches meeting. If teams cannot decide on something, the league administrator will make the final decision.

4.     Teams will have a 10 minute grace period from the scheduled start time to show up. If your team does not have enough players to play after 10 minutes, your team will be forced to forfeit.

5.     If a team has a 25 run lead after 4 full innings or a 20 run lead after 5 innings, the game will stop and be ruled complete.

6.     Teams will be given lineup cards for the season. Before each game, teams will submit their batting lineup to the umpires and the other team. Please include the player’s number on the lineup cards.

7.     Defensive substitutions may be made at any time. Changes to the batting order must be announced to the other team prior to the substituted player batting.

8.     All outfield players must stand behind the female line in the outfield when a female is batting. All infielders must have both feet in the infield clay while a female is hitting. Players can position themselves anywhere on the field when a male is batting.

9.     One (1) Male and One (1) Female may have a runner each inning. The runners no longer need to be declared at the beginning of the game. The last recorded out shall be the runner. If no out has been recorded in the game, the last batter of the same sex shall be the runner. If the runner’s at bat occurs while on base, the original batter must replace the runner. It is the responsibility of the captains to monitor the use of the courtesy runners and notify the umpire if they see any violations.

10. Trick and fast pitching is prohibited.

Rosters

1.      Teams may have a maximum of 18 players on their roster and a minimum of 10.

2.     Rosters must be published on the JaxSport Website. Roster changes may be made by emailing info@jaxsport.com with the player you are removing and the player you are adding. Teams may make roster changes up until the  3rd week of the season. After the 3rd week, all rosters are frozen and hard copy of each team’s final roster must be submitted to the League Director (*North league Rosters will be send to Graham1280@outlook.com or Hander48@gmail.com). (South League Rosters will be sent to info@jaxsport.com) Injuries, Pregnancies, and Deployments may be exceptions; consult The League Director in such cases.

3.     Teams must have at least 7 of their own rostered players in order to avoid a forfeit and teams must have 8 players to start a game, which means they can pick up at least one male player from another team without approval.

i)         One (1) upper division female may be picked up in the lower division without permission.

ii)        Upper division males may not play in the lower division.

iii)      Lower division females and males may be picked up in any division.

iv)      Females may be picked up without approval from the other team’s captain (up to 5 to fill out the lineup of 10).

v)        Anything more than the minimum of 8 must be approved by the other team’s captain.

vi)      2 women, 5 men show up, team can pick up 3 women without permission.

vii)     5 women, 3 men show up, team must get permission to pick up any men for the team. Other team can deny approval of the pickup of more men, but the short team can pick up 2 women without permission to fill out roster.

viii)    5 women, 2 men show up, short team may pick up one male without permission, but then must get permission for any additional males, or pick up additional women)

4.     Teams are only allowed to pick up players from other teams as long as they are currently registered players from other teams. Each Tournament player must be a rostered player, who has also played a minimum of 2 regular season games. NON-REGISTERED PLAYERS MAY NOT PLAY AT ANY TIME.

5.     Players that are picked up from other teams may not pitch for that team.

6.     Once your registered player arrives at the game, the substitute player must exit the game.

7.      Males and females may play any position with the exception of the Pitcher/Catcher combination which must consist of a male and female. If your team only has 4 females, a male will be substituted to play catcher.  In such cases, the male catcher is not eligible to make any live ball defensive plays (ex- No foul ball catches, No forces, No Tags) and the Pitcher/Catcher combination must consist of two males. If only 3 women, the captain from the other team will decide the defensive placement of the 3 women (2 in outfield, 1 in infield, or vice versa).  When a team plays 6 females and 4 males, the teams are allowed to play a Pitcher/Catcher combination of 2 females.

8.     Batting orders must alternate guy/girl throughout the batting order. Women can be substituted for men, but men cannot be substituted for women. Any spot in the order where men bat back to back, an out will be taken between them. (ex- 6 men, 4 women hitting). Women can be rotated through out the order when short.

9.     Teams may bat 14 players if they have 7 women and 7 men. Again, if an odd number of players, women can be rotated through to keep the guy/girl order.

10.   If a team has a player ejected, you can replace that player with a current rostered player that has not been in the batting order yet. If you do not have any players available to make a substitution with, you must play with one less player in the field. Ejections will not cause a forfeit unless several players are ejected and you end up with less than 8 players.
